| Little Barrie is not the latest child prodigy to hit the charts, but in fact a group of three people, lead by a man called Barrie. Whether Barrie is actually little or not seems irrelevant, so I will just carry on with the review. |

Kicking off with a stop-start blues riff, ‘Long Hair’ quickly gets into the main theme of the song – a fairly catchy chorus melody. This all chugs along at a head-bobbing pace, a perfect recipe for a nice chart-friendly song.
The general feel is of a slightly funkier White Stripes, but with a fuller sound, and a drummer who can do something other than go "bish-bosh-bish-bosh". And, well, it’s OK. The bluesy verse provides a nice break from the eventually irritating and over-milked chorus, but it’s all a bit middle of the road. You know a song can’t be that great when the b-side remix (seemingly randomly done by the Stereo MCs) is actually better than the original.
If you heard it on the radio while driving along, you might hum along to the chorus, but you certainly wouldn’t be thinking: "Who is this Barrie chap, and how can a man so small make such great music?". |
