No.1 Interpol - Antics

Strange for a band’s first two records to sound like they were released in the wrong order, but Antics’ relative lack of complexity after the stunningly neurotic and intricate debut Turn On The Bright Lights hasn’t stopped it from topping this list. And this is because Interpol’s masterful command of gloom is as bewitching as it is beautifully unique. If Joy Division were actually as good as people seem intent on pretending they were, they still wouldn’t be anywhere near as mesmerisingly bleak as this. This record is with us for good. TP
