Due
to Rock City's preposterous and, dare I say it, "moneygrabbing"
insistence on putting the first band on at exactly the
same time as
they open the doors (this means they can start their club
night earlier and get more punters in), Tinyvoices was unable
to catch the entirety of this set. Pity.
Playing upstairs for once
in the newly refurbished and suddenly much more cavernous
main hall, Reuben nevertheless managed to be much louder
and much more metal than they have any right to be, given
that they are but a three-piece and have a penchant for writing
tunes with the catchiest of hooks as well. Thus we are treated
to a barnstorming performance of searing music and inspired
melody, spanking out the top picks from album Racecar
is Racecar Backwards, as well as a couple of oldies.
Latest single "Freddy Kreuger" proves to be a
live favourite, all breathtakingly simple yet powerful harmonies
and crowd-singalong chorus, and the new song they play tonight
has my mouth watering for the sheer rock-metal-with-tunes-on
magnitude of their next album.
Top lads, top band, and at least there was no spectacular
equipment failure this time.
Boxer Rebellion
Oh, it's just bollocks indie, isn't it? All very
majestic and heartfelt, but boring as fuck. Go. Away. We're
not reviewing you.
Biffy Clyro
Biffy Clyro are surely, surely, surely the best rock band
in the world.
