Mekon
- 'Boy Bitten/Blood On The Moon'
(Pias/Wall Of Sound)

| This really is a brilliant double A-side single. In fact, if you’ve any interest in dancing around whatsoever, I suggest you make this part of your record collection. You’ll certainly get your money’s worth. On top of the two singles here, there are also a couple of remixes, taking the overall running time to over twenty-one minutes. Not bad for a single, and especially good when you consider how consistently amazing those twenty-one minutes are. |

'Boy Bitten' is sublime. A swishy effect and a breathy female vocal sample are met with a pounding fuzzy bass line, before Rita Brown’s powerfully monotonous vocals burst through and Mekon lets loose all manner of noisy effects and eminently danceable beats.
'Blood On The Moon' could well be even better. I couldn’t say for sure. It’s certainly very different, an altogether much darker affair. Alan Vega of Suicide’s affected vocal performance would be enough to give any child nightmares and Mekon creates something close to a musical interpretation of the apocalypse behind him, but an apocalypse you can dance to. It’s really quite special.
Definitely well worth buying, then, and a possible contender for single of the year. |
