Linkin Park are way past their peak. That came in 2002 with the release of their debut album Hybrid Theory (which, to be honest with you, was pretty special when I was 14). Since then though they've managed to retain their status as one of the worlds biggest bands with a serious of dull, formulaic albums and singles. 'Bleed It Out' is the second single from their latest album Minutes to Midnight.

The previous single 'What I've Done' may have surprised the die-hard Linkin Park fans because it actually didn't sound very much like Linkin Park - it sounded like Lostprophets, and it was pretty dire. All the more surprising then is the fact that 'Bleed It Out' is almost a good song. By almost I mean they nearly got it right, but then their idiotic frontman Chester Bennington had to go spoil it all. The nu-metal riffs are gone, replaced with a mellow groove which fits Shinoda's (actually pretty decent) rapping well. It's one of those songs that moves your hands and feet involuntarily. So why then - in such a laid-back, easy song - did the rest of the band let Bennington croak and gargle his way over the, admittedly, massive chorus line. I could have re-converted, I could have become a Linkin park fan once more, alas it wasn't to be.
Probably a good thing, if I'm honest. |
