As I write this review I’m watching (on mute, obviously) Tony Blair’s official resignation, and all of a sudden we’re at the beginning of a new era, a new Prime Minister, a new cabinet, and most of all, new hope. The country hopes that Mr. Brown can rectify all of Mr. Blair’s mistakes, and become ‘The People’s Prime Minister’. I’m not as optimistic. In fact the only thing I’m hoping for right now is for bands like Pull Tiger Tail to just write something exciting.

‘Hurricanes’ is far from being exciting - it’s discordant, harmonic, bouncy and catchy as hell, but nothing much is really going on. There isn’t much here to separate Pull Tiger Tail from hundreds of other bands peddling the exact same formula. And this saddens me, because listening to ‘Hurricanes’ I realise that Pull Tiger Tail are capable of something a great deal better, the musicianship is flawless, the vocals are pleasant enough, and at times it sounds like the American band Sound Team, which isn’t a bad thing. But like I’ve previously said, this just doesn’t excite me enough.

Going back to the subject of hope, I hope that I’ve caught Pull Tiger Tail on a bad day, and I hope the rest of their material is much more stimulating, I hope to be proven wrong one day, and I hope Pull Tiger Tail could become one of my favourite bands. But right now that’s all it is – hope.
