| The LVRS, heavily themed in love, violence, religion, sex and death, are the spoken word side project of Tairrie B and Mick Murphy from My Ruin. Miss B does the words, Mr Murphy does the sounds. |

The whole album is delivered in a slightly surreal way - tense and atmospheric sounds are paired with an ominous and unnerving voice way too remniscient of Linda Hamilton in Terminator. This is definitely not very easy listening.
This is a bit too pretentious and a bit too throwaway for my liking ("The music business cares more about the business, than the music"). What I was expecting from a spoken word album was social commentary and life experiences, but this isn't much different to the lyrics of any upcoming goth rock band. Lines like "Sometimes I wanna hate so hard, because I love so deep", just propels the listener into confusion - you're left figuring out what she meant and in the meantime you've missed the rest of the track.
Nothing on this album challenges the way people think about the music industry, or even poetry. It just feels like somewhere Tairrie B can throw away her unused lyrics and ideas. I often found myself drawn to the music (which is actually pretty good) and the words passed me by in a haze. A soundtrack to a goth girl's life maybe, but this certainly did nothing for me. Disappointing. |
