When you spend most of your time listening to dark and depressive music, you need to keep aside a special band, a band to cheer you up and get that smile back on your face. For me, getAmped are now that band.

If you don’t like happy so-cal influenced pop-punk, then I’m afraid getAmped will do nothing for you, but if you’re partial to the charms of this scene then you’re in for a real treat. Opener and title track ‘Postcards from Hell’ twists and turns its way through a variety of moves - the big opening riff, the slow and calm bridge and the stadium rock chorus. Listening to second track and latest single, ‘Reject and Sterilise’, is similar to that feeling you get when you find a tenner in your back pocket. It is 3 minutes of pure pop fun, with an awesome guitar riff and a great hook line, one I guarantee you will be singing for days. It owes a lot to The Wildhearts.

Strangely enough, getAmped cite their early influences as being The Police, Iron Maiden and Queen, but only the former is noticeable within their work - especially considering the album contains a cover of 'Walking on the Moon' by said band. And what a cover it is, bearing absolutely no resemblance to the original. The music has been totally re-written and the chorus has the getAmped stamp all over it. In fact only the verse melody remains from the original track.

getAmped have the accolade of being one of very few little-known British bands to be huge in China. They were invited to play festivals over there in front of over 100,000 people, and were so successful they’ve been invited back three more times. Not bad for two surf-obsessed brothers from the south coast (brothers Tim and Rick Parkhouse are currently working with ex-Pitchshifter drummer Jason Bowlds). The China experience has really motivated getAmped, they want more than anything to make it that big over here too. So let's get out our surf boards (or buy one if you don’t own one), die our hair peroxide blonde and sing and surf our summers away. No? Just me then…

getAmped are exactly what you would want from a pop-punk band - fun, exciting and energetic. Mix that with their metal, grunge and pop influences, and you have one of the most exciting pop records of 2006. And I’m still smiling.
