| ‘Say Something’ is the limited-edition, debut single by Derby band Komakino, the latest addition to the Drowned in Sound empire’s small, diverse label offshoot. |

The song kicks off with a worryingly Libertines-y two-note guitar intro, but then soon dissipates any fears by settling down into a post-punk thrasharound that reminds one of Idlewild before they went boring and rubbish. A couple of equally compelling b-sides round things off nicely.
To be honest, it’s nothing that’s going to revolutionise recorded sound as we know it, but I found myself warming to it for two reasons: first, they’re from Derbyshire; and second, it’s the kind of thing I could imagine myself bobbing up and down to at some gruesome indie disco, when I was young, and before the weight of the world crushed my spirit.
Bravo, Komakino! |
