| I’ve always been of the opinion that something should just grab you right from the off. I suspect there’ll be plenty of people who don’t get beyond this opening paragraph. Snap judgements are rarely wrong; you can be put off something so quickly by a bad opening. That’s what happens here. The opening piano is so utterly mundane that what comes after seems almost irrelevant - my view is already coloured against Morning Runner. |

It doesn’t help then that what follows is pretty much anthemic indie by numbers. There’s nothing remotely new here, and what there is isn’t particularly great. The press release might talk of a dark undercurrent to the band, but when this is so wrapped up in the sort of songs Embrace would, admittedly, kill for, then it all comes off very badly.
The b-side is better, but still nothing beyond competent.
Just dull. Not even bad really. Just dull. And that’s almost worse
