| Quinn is a rubbish name for a band. It sounds like a half-hearted attempt at saying Keane, without being able to muster the enthusiasm for the strong vowel. It’s a CD that has been sitting at the bottom of my pile, rightly or wrongly, for a while now. |

My point really is that the name does them no favours at all. I had a full review written out expressing near total apathy for this single. Except, I actually quite like it. It’s like Saloon, or Broadcast. Well, like Diet Broadcast or something.
'The World is Upside Down' is in no way an exciting record. It’s pretty, but fundamentally too "chilled" for its own good. The admittedly wonderful vocals of Louise Quinn (at least there’s a reason for the name) say nothing, and the electronica is so mundane that it’s pretty much a token gesture - especially on the B-sides.
But despite this, I'm trying to be positive. Well, 6 out of 10 is positive, just about. I could listen to this kind of stuff all day without ever having to really think about it. And I like that. Not everything has to be revolutionary. Sometimes a pretty vocal and some twinkly samples are charming enough. Although, i'd still probably rather opt for Saloon's If We Meet In The Future or Broadcast's Tender Buttons... |
