'Aliens' is straight from professional weirdo Kool Keith's latest Dr Octagon album, The Return of Dr Octagon. It's a strange concoction full of lyrical and musical flexibility. The production from One Watt Sun lunges and lurches between spacey beats and kitschy marching-band stylings. Dr Octo himself spins bizarre episodic yarns on aliens. The two are meshed together, with Kool Keith almost becoming an instrument in the production rather than flowing over the top like more conventional emcees.
Weird stuff, and it's hard to decide whether it truly works without reference to other album material. Sadly the extra material on the single (a dnb remix by Subfocus) is decidedly substandard. |
