| Is ‘Sleaze Rock’ a bona fide genre in the ever-concentrated world of popular music classification? Even if not, it will be if Gliss become popular. ‘Blue Sky’, the latest single from the LA trio, is the epitome of the ‘Sleaze Rock’ paradigm (if there is one). |

From the uninterested, sneering drawl of the lead singer, to the foot-tapping drums, this song staggers along like a slightly drunken prize-winning boxer. But by far the most attention-grabbing feature of ‘Blue Sky’ is the strutting guitar riff that underpins this blues-tinged tune from beginning to end.
The most perplexing quandary with ‘Blue Sky’ is the Madchester-esque vocals that detract from the song’s alt-rock backbone and tend to shift it into the mystifying world of psychedelic indie rock (hence forth known as psychindock). Perhaps the singer could down a couple of cliché-ridden bottles of Jack Daniels and smoke a dozen stereotyped Marlboros to add some gravitas and grit to his voice in line with the rest of the song?
On the whole, this is a catchy little number and the debut album, due sometime in 2006, should be keenly anticipated.
