Haddonfield
- 'Bar Brawls and Downfalls'
(Thousand Yard Stereo)

| When any CD lands on my desk, the first thing I do (and I guess most people reviewing music nowadays) is go to the artist’s page on the deity that is Myspace. And what really annoys me on any Myspace page? Bad layout, that’s what! Haddonfield’s page is really bad (in Firefox anyway, it sort of looks ok in IE). Why mess up what is probably your best channel for exposure? |

Enough web design for beginners, what about the music? ‘Bar Brawls and Downfalls’ starts off with ‘Panic’, which makes Haddonfield sound like a sub-standard Welsh Dead Kennedys. Luckily, from here on in things improve to the power of ten. ‘Romero’ charges off and sets the tone for the rest of the E.P., its classic punk characteristics employed with some truly sneering cynicism and post-hardcore melody. The third track, ‘Bar Brawls and Downfalls’ improves things further — mainly due to the threatening reverb added to the lyrics. ‘A & E’ and ‘Broke’ are more of the same efficient outpouring of anger and menace, reminiscent of Alkaline Trio before the devil worshipping and fame.
I'll be rocking out to 'Bar Brawls and Downfalls' for weeks (or hours dependant on what Last.Fm throws at me next). |
