"House Ferrets and Small Pets Club: Smartgroups club for discussion of care, showing, and sales of ferrets and other small pets.". "The Handlebar (moustache) Club: An international club for men with handlebar moustaches. Founded in 1947.". "The British Falconers Club: The oldest established falconry club in the UK, dedicated to preserving the ancient field sport of hunting with trained birds of prey." Tokyo Police Club: A Toronto-based indie/rock/pop band possibly reported to be the next big things.

What do all these clubs have in common? A predilection for small hairy things placed on ones lip, on one's arm or up one's trouser legs? No. They have nothing in common, I fooled you! Ha ha, do you feel worthless now? I just wanted to let you know about some of the clubs I have been a member of over the past few years.

Tokyo Police Club are significantly more talented than the other clubs, and produce superior music. 'A Lesson In Crime', TPC's debut mini album, starts off where the early Strokes finished, unembellished and unfussy bass lines driving pop lyrics and guitar. The first two songs, 'Cheer It On' and 'Nature of the Experiment' are the most enjoyable songs and also very much part of the current musical zeitgeist. But as the album moves on, TPC enter the realms of The Editors and The Flaming Lips without managing to capture either band's characteristically gratifying sound. As with all albums, no matter how near to perfection they are, there will always be one thing that chafes on the ear drum, and in this case it's the habitual and over-loud distorted bass guitar.

Despite its flaws "A Lesson In Crime" is an intelligent and more often that not pleasing affair exemplified by lead singer David Monks' natty lyrics.
