There’s plenty to like about spunky young Coventry trio the Ripps. What I like best is that, from the right angle, their singer looks a bit like Kevin Eldon, possibly my favourite comedy actor ever.

But like I said, there’s plenty else to like about them. Playing the kind of chirpy, garage Britpop that Supergrass once excelled at is a great start, and singing like you’re one of the bad kids out of Grange Hill is always going to score you points. The Ripps pull off tacky "oi oi" moves like there’s no tomorrow, and somehow still sound fresh, energetic and entertaining. ‘Vandals’ is irreverent, lairy and charming, enough to consign a whole barrow-load of toss London bands to the bargain bin in an instant.

I've always wondered, what exactly does 'lairy' mean?

Well, it's a bit rowdy, a bit cheeky, and maybe a little bit 'mad for it'. Now you know. You will be charged 20p plus network rates for this service.
